Objective: To provide spiritual encouragement and resources for personal development.Related Readings: Preparing for Radical Change The wise man sees trouble coming and prepares for it. Proverbs 27:12 There is a wind of change in the air. The uneasy feeling that things will not always continue as they have in the past. The world is beginning to experience the birthpangs of a new era: an era of unprecedented upheaval of social, economic, geo-political, and natural forces. Change is inevitable, yet radical change need not catch us unawares. Preparedness is an essential element of the Naval Reserve. We must be prepared for war. We must be prepared in peace. We must be prepared for certain tumultuous times which lie ahead. We must be prepared for times of radical change. As Naval Reservists, we are in a unique position to prepare for change. We are two-hatted citizen-sailors with a multitude of experience and resources to bring to bear. We have a proven loyalty to our country and sense of perseverance in the face of challenge. We are well positioned to help our Navy and our country to prepare for radical change. Preparing for Tumultuous Times But know this, that in the last days perilous times will come.
2 Timothy 3:1 We are crossing a threshold and entering into a period of unprecedented tumult: social, economic, environmental and geopolitical. Certainly, there have been such challenges in times past, but this has the potential of overshadowing all previous eras. The time-vector of history is at a cusp, ready to radically change direction and magnitude without warning. The nations roar and the kings of the earth conspire. The earth groans and waits – expectantly and in awe. 1 How does one prepare for such times? Preparation begins in the heart, becoming right with our Creator God, and knowing Him though His Son, who truly is the way, and the truth, and the life. As the tide turns and rolls in, and the storms of life assail, I realize more and more that we live and breathe solely by the grace of the living God, and by His grace alone. Solely by His mercy we are not consumed. Time, and time, and time again, He has spared me from certain destruction. Solely through the shed blood of Jesus Christ can we have forgiveness of sins, access to His throne of Grace, and the promise of eternal life with Him. Without Jesus there is no hope! * * * Tumultuous times are times of opportunity. Please pray for wisdom, discernment, and endurance as we endeavor to encourage and prepare our families, neighbors, co-workers, and men and women of our armed forces to be ready for these times. Pray that, like the sons of Issachar, we would have an understanding of the times, to know what we ought to do. It is our prayer that through our Bible studies with service men and women at Buckley Air Force Base, God will continue to draw men and women to a saving, personal relationship with Jesus Christ, to equip them to be laborers, and to prepare them for the coming age. Through endurance, through networking, and through personal faith in Jesus Christ we can endure and overcome! I believe that God is placing His laborers in key positions, both visible and discreet, high and low, close to home and far a field, to encourage the fainthearted, to minister to the lost, and to build up the saints as times get tough. His Holy Spirit is building up an army of disciples, even now! It is worth any cost to be used by God for His glory, however He chooses. Please pray with us, and prepare for tumultuous times ahead! Colaboring in the Gospel, This prognostication is not simply conjecture, nor is it particularly prophetic, for it has already been written or all to see – and we should be reading the Book. Neither is the timing certain, but that is not important, for the prophetic writers of Scripture were not certain of much of the timing either. But their validity is certain. What is important is that they led their lives expectantly, redeeming the time, and they invested in eternal issues: the Word of God and the souls of people. And so should we.
Invocation 08 October 2005 at Denver Navy Birthday Ball By: CAPT Pete Dunn, USNR (ret.) "Eternal Father, strong to save; Your arm hath bound the restless wave; You biddest the mighty ocean deep, its own appointed limits keep. O hear us when we cry to Thee, for those in peril on the sea!"
Father, we do ask your special blessing upon this celebration of our Navy?s 230th birthday! We lift up to you our Navy Family around the globe, and the sailors, soldiers, airmen and marines serving in harm?s way, this every hour. Lord, we lift up to you their commanders, and our Commander-in-Chief. Give them Divine wisdom and discernment beyond their years! We remember with gratitude, those who have been prisoners of war and those who have paid the supreme sacrifice for their country. We pray you would richly bless each man and women in your service here, and especially our spouses and families, without whose support we could not serve! Father, as our nation enters into an era of uncharted waters, of certain tumultuous times ahead, help us always to remember that: "except the Lord builds the house, we labor in vain that build it; except the Lord keep the city, the watchman wakes but in vain." We pray you would continue to thwart the plans of terrorists, that their plans world be exposed, their technologies would crumble, their relationships would falter, their hearts would grow weary, and their vision would grow dim! Finally, Lord, grant us your grace; open our eyes that when we go down to the sea in ships, and do business in great waters, we would see the works of the Lord, and your wonders in the deep! You are an awesome God! Lord, we give You the glory, and pray, in your precious name, Amen! Helpful Links:
