< Go BackOne of our Chapter's primary purposes is to: Assist drilling Naval Reserve officers in their professional development. We are dedicated to helping them to be better informed, more motivated, and more professional in their military career.
To that end, CAPT John Hayden, USNR (Ret) has been selected to head up this Chapter effort, as Vice President, Professional Development, of the Rocky Mountain Chapter. He is putting together a group of dedicated Naval officers to work on this effort with him.
Initially our efforts will be three-fold. First, we plan on conducting a Professional Development Seminar for drilling Naval Reserve officers for early in the year of 2004. It will consist of bringing together knowledgeable, experienced, quality officers who will talk about fitness reports, selections boards, the apply board, record reviews, active duty for training assignments, billet assignments, the writing of fitness reports, career planning, and other topics crucial to an officer's professional development. More detailed information will be forthcoming on this Seminar.
Second, we are establishing an individual mentoring program for those drilling Naval Reserve officers who wish to avail themselves of this effort. An experienced, knowledgeable, senior Naval Reserve officer of the same designator will be offered to mentor and work with a drilling Reserve officer who wishes to participate. That mentor will work with the drilling Reserve officer, one on one, in listening, providing advice, counseling, and assisting that officer on as frequent a basis as desired.
Third, we will be putting on this page, topics of specific interest relating to an officer's professional development. These will not be articles simply duplicated from magazines or publications which most Naval Reserve officers have access to, The Naval Reserve Association has many fine articles on their website, as well as in their periodic magazine, a must read for those Naval Reserve officers interested in their naval careers. Rather, the articles appearing below will be along the lines of the following letter, written by a senior military active duty flag to a junior officer desiring an insight on what he as an 0-6 should be reading (studying, as the Major General says) to become a better leader in battle.
